Mission

The purpose of AAPO is to recognize and promote the advancement of Black professionals (i.e. faculty and staff) on the campus of Texas A&M University and within the Texas A&M University System through professional development, advocacy, support, networking opportunities, and Bryan-College Station community engagement.

Goals and Objectives:

Professional Development
Promote and provide professional development opportunities through workshops, lectures and various programs in promoting both professional and personal growth.

Objectives: 
  • Encourage the seek professional development opportunities in their department and campus-wide. 
  • Assist in providing opportunities for informal mentoring among and for Black faculty and staff as appropriate by facilitating one-on-one interactions and targeted programming. 

Advocacy
Advocate for the recruitment, retention, advancement, and interests of Black administrators, faculty, staff, and students at Texas A&M University.

Objectives: 
  • Monitor and assess rentention and recruitment measures as it relates to faculty, staff and students of color. 
  • Provide opportunities for discourse involving topics surrounding recruitment and retention of Black faculty, staff, and students with appropriate offices and departments within the university.

Support
Connect AAPO members to relevant resources and programming to assist them in reaching both personal and professional goals.

Objectives: 
  • Utilize face-to-face and online resources to network, discuss and disseminate information regarding issues pertaining to socio-academic lives of our members, resources and professional development opportunities.

Networking Opportunities
Provide opportunities for members to meet other Black faculty and staff members across campus and foster a sense of community through relationship-building and/or mentoring efforts.

Objectives: 
  • Encourage participation and support in campus and community activities and programming.
  • Provide opportunities through consistent programming for Black faculty and staff to experience comradery, share their experiences and understanding.   
Community Engagement
Develop relationships and collaborate with on- and off-campus organizations and groups to address community issues affecting AAPO members and constituents.
